British Airways launches exclusive service

British Airways has today launched the first long haul flight from London City Airport by bringing its all-business service to JFK Airport in New York into operation.

The twice daily service, which bears the prestigious BA001 flight number formerly used by Concorde, sees two uniquely configured Airbus A318s offer business travellers the opportunity to send emails and text messages, as well as use the internet, during their flight.

For added convenience, travellers are able to check-in just 15 minutes before departure. Plus, while making a refuelling stop at Shannon Airport, passengers will be cleared for US customs and immigration, making their departure from JFK quick and easy.

Willie Walsh, British Airways' chief executive, said: "Our long tradition of delivering world-beating and innovative new services continues with the launch of this unique route. For the first time, the City has a tailor-made premium service to New York on its doorstep offering the most productive possible use of time for business people travelling between the two great financial districts."

"New York is the most demanded destination not currently served from London City. The new route is a key growth opportunity for us and demonstrates the premium nature of London City Airport."
