Cruise holidays continue to grow

May 22, 2009

According to a report published by the Passenger Shipping Association, cruise holidays have seen a significant increase in popularity, with nearly 1.5 million cruise goers in 2008.

The Annual Cruise Review revealed a third successive year of double-digit growth in cruise goers, with the increase representing an 11% growth from 2007. In addition, the report detailed that the average duration of cruise holidays has increased to 10.4 nights.

The report added: "Although the economic situation has created some of the toughest market conditions the travel industry has seen for years, a combination of increased capacity, strong repeat business and timely consumer recognition of cruising's value for money is expected to ensure further global growth."

It also appears that the Mediterranean remains the favourite cruise destination for the British, with Northern Europe pipping the Caribbean into second place.

If you are one of the many travellers looking to cruise later this year from either Southampton or Dover ports, remember to book your port parking, and even a port hotel, with Holiday Extras, and make your money go further.
