New Queen Elizabeth for Cunard

News that Cunard is to launch another ship in 2010 confirms just how buoyant the cruise industry now is. The ship will be named Queen Elizabeth, and follows the Queen Victoria which is due to be launched this December.

"The decision to order another ship for Cunard Line has been taken as a result of the strong booking response to the new Queen Victoria," says president of Cunard Line, Carol Marlow.

The new Queen Elizabeth will become the second largest Cunarder every built when it enters service in the autumn of 2010. The ship will be built at the Italian yard Fincantieri and although full design details have yet to be released it has been announced that she will be able to carry 2,092 passengers.

Southampton will be the Queen Elizabeth's home port and initial cruise itineraries for the new ship will be released in due course.
