Holidays abroad still offer value

April 14, 2009

According to research carried out by Thomas Cook, holidays in many overseas destinations continue to offer better value than breaks at UK resorts.

Despite the weakness of the pound in relation to many foreign currencies, the latest Holiday Cost of Living survey by the travel giant shows that a number of resorts offer a more cost-effective option.

Among the 16 destinations analysed, the most affordable destination is Goa, where the average daily expenditure runs to a mere £14.10 per person. A break in the UK, meanwhile, will set you back £48.51 per day.

"There are some fantastic value-for-money deals available on both holiday and foreign exchange," said Thomas Cook spokesperson Pete Constanti.

"If you are on a tight budget, consider an all-inclusive option. This will mean that you've paid for food, drinks and some activities in advance."

North African destinations such as Morocco also fared well for price, while, surprisingly, Spain and Cyprus remained great value for money, despite the value of the euro against the pound.
