London Gatwick Airport has announced details of a new luxury coach service linking various sites in north Kent with the airport.

Operated by Excel Coaches, the service is jointly funded by London Gatwick Airport, Kent County Council and Medway Council. The service will operate every two hours from Chatham Docks, calling at Hempstead, Maidstone, Sevenoaks and Godstone before arriving at the airport.

Liz Trevor, London Gatwick Airport's head of sustainability, said: "One of our commitments towards delivering sustainable development at the airport is to provide good public transport links to and from the airport. This will contribute towards achieving our target of 40% of passengers using public transport.

"This new initiative, funded by Gatwick Airport and supported by Kent County Council and Medway Council, will serve an important part of our catchment area for the first time. We look forward to developing the service for the benefit of our customers based in Kent."

Daniel Washington, Kent County Council public transport planner, said: "Kent County Council welcomes this new 24 hour service opening up new routes between locations in Kent and providing a direct service through to Gatwick Airport."
