Much maligned Heathrow airport and British Airways have been honoured in the latest Business Traveller magazine awards.

Voted for by readers of Business Traveller magazine, the Business Traveller Awards for the Middle East were presented this week in Dubai.

Heathrow airport, which has suffered so much bad publicity following the catastrophic opening of Terminal 5, was recognised as third best airport in the world behind Dubai International airport in second place and Singapore Changi airport in first place.

British Airways, which has also been damaged by the T5 fiasco, was voted best European airline ahead of Lufthansa and Air France. Etihad Airways was the main winner in the airlines awards, scooping best airline, best business class, best economy class, best regional airline, best cabin staff and best frequent flyer programme. Singapore Airlines also won two awards – best Asian airline, and best first class.

Hotels were honoured too in the Business Traveller awards. Best business hotel in Dubai was named as Jumeirah Emirates Towers, followed by Grosvenor House and Fairmont Dubai. Jumeirah Emirates Towers also won best business hotel in the Middle East, ahead of Beach Rotana Hotel & Towers in Abu Dhabi, and InterContinental Citystars in Cairo.

Intercontinental was awarded best hotel chain, followed by Rotana and Sheraton Hotels & Resorts. Best leisure/resort hotel in the Middle East went to Madinat Jumeirah in Dubai.

Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club won best golf course in the Middle East, ahead of Emirates Golf Club and Abu Dhabi Golf Club. Avis was voted best car rental company in the region, with Hertz second and Budget third.
