Charity auction winner names plane
It may seem like one of the more unusual romantic gestures, but Harrogate resident Helen Normington received a gift that will prove as unforgettable as it does unique.
Speaking at the unveiling of her eponymous Boeing 737 at Leeds Bradford Airport, Helen commented: "I was so surprised when Neil told me where we were going this morning - to the airport to see an aircraft named after me! It's a great honour and it's certainly a gift I won't forget in my lifetime."
Husband Neil won the privilege to name the aircraft after bidding £3,000 in a charity auction held by Spofforth Cricket Club on behalf of Yorkshire Air Ambulance. He added: "I knew Helen would never expect this - the look of surprise when I told her was classic. The money I paid is going to a fantastic cause and [the] guys at the Yorkshire Air Ambulance do a great job day in and day out.
"I'd like to thank Jet2.com and Spofforth Cricket Club for giving me the opportunity to present my wife with such a memorable and unique gift."
Philip Meeson, chief executive at Jet2.com, said: "We know the cost and organisation involved in air transport and we are proud to support this fundraising initiative for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance. Mr Normington's donation was very generous and naming the plane after his wide was a very touching gesture."
