Jetsleeper aims to aid sleep in economy
[October 10th 2008]
It may have been dismissed by Dragon's Den, but the Jetsleeper is set to give passengers in economy class a good rest on their flight.
Trying to sleep in economy class on most airlines is notoriously difficult but the inventor of Jetsleeper, Tim Williams, claims to have come up with the solution. The Jetsleeper is a self-expanding pillow that hooks onto the headrest and armrest and can be adjusted to suit even the tallest passenger.
Williams' own experiences of travelling in economy class prompted him to come up with the design. As a regular flyer I became so fed up of getting off the plane with a stiff neck and a sore back, says Williams. Upgrading your airline seat to business class is so expensive but I think with the £20 Jetsleeper, you no longer need to.
Williams went on the hit BBC2 series Dragon's Den to try to secure backing for Jetsleeper, but he was rejected by the notoriously hard to please panel of multi-millionaires which includes Peter Jones, Theo Paphitis and Duncan Bannatyne.
Now Williams is pressing ahead without the backing of the Dragons and hopes that the new trend for airlines to charge for pillows may contribute to Jetsleeper's success. I designed the pillow for maximum comfort and minimal hassle. And with airlines starting to charge for their pillows, nows the best time to invest in the best for yourself, he says.
Each Jetsleeper sleeping aid comes in its own pocket-sized bag and weighs less than a mobile phone. As well as on planes, the pillows can also be used on trains and coaches or any seat with a headrest and armrest.
While it may not have found favour with Dragon's Den, the Jetsleeper has picked up two awards at the British Inventors Show.
