Oslo Most Expensive For Car Rental

A new survey has found that Oslo is the most expensive city in the world to rent a car.

The survey, by online car rental broker CarDelMar, found that it costs four times as much to rent a car in the Norwegian city as it does in Dubai, where petrol is of course considerably cheaper.

The Gas Guzzling Grid aims to give holidaymakers an accurate insight into the relative costs of car hire across the world's most popular destinations. Various factors were taken into account when compiling the league table - the cost of car hire, insurance and extras over a week, the price of fuel to cover 250 miles, and the exchange rate with the local currency.

"Once we had put all these factors into our formula we realised we had come up with an accurate and helpful comparison index," saysCarDelMar MD, Carsten Greiner.

Several popular city break destinations in Europe feature in the league table as the most expensive places to rent a car. Second most expensive is the Austrian city of Vienna, followed by the Italian city famous for its leaning tower, Pisa, and then Berlin and Paris. The overall cost of renting a car for a week in Paris is about four times the cost of renting one in oil-rich Dubai.

According to the Gas Guzzling Grid, Los Angeles is the second cheapest city to rent a car, followed by Cape Town in South Africa and another US city, San Jose. The popular summer holiday destination of Majorca comes next followed by Auckland in New Zealand and then London.
