Ryanair has announced a rise in luggage check-in fees as part of changes to its baggage policies.
It will cost passengers £30 to check in a bag at the airport or £15 in advance on the company's website on all new bookings from October 1. A second bag can be checked in for £70 at the airport or £35 online in advance.
Each bag will have a separate 15kg allowance, so that every passenger can travel with up to 30kg of checked-in baggage.
Ryanairs Stephen McNamara, said:
Ryanair continues to reduce air fares saving our passengers over 530m this year alone. In order to persuade passengers to travel with carry on bags only and to defray the cost of some of these fare reductions we are increasing baggage allowances and fees with effect from 1st October. These baggage fees are all avoidable by all passengers who choose to travel with carry on luggage only. Over 70% of Ryanair passengers will be totally unaffected by these changes as they already travel with just one carry on bag, which is free of charge.
The low fares airline plans to remove traditional check-in desks at the airport from next month in a bid to cut costs.
