Spice one wins

A Virgin Atlantic Boeing 747 was christened "Spice One" today, after over 33,000 fans worldwide entered a competition to name a jet celebrating the Spice Girls' reunion tour.

Spice One won with 56% of the vote, a decisive victory over "Girl Power" and "Spice Girl". Victoria, Melanie B, Emma, Melanie C and Geri said: “It’s fantastic to have a plane named in our honour. We wish everyone who travels onboard Spice One a great flight.”

One lucky winner was flown out to Los Angeles with a friend to meet the girls at the official naming ceremony.

Sir Richard Branson, President of Virgin Atlantic, commented: “Chosen by 33,000 people from around the world, Spice One could be the most popular plane name in our history! We are proud to be bringing the Spice Girls back in style for their home-coming tour, and back in time for Christmas, following their triumphant US shows.”

The Return of the Spice Girls world tour kicked off on 2 December in Vancouver and moved on to San Jose, Los Angeles and Las Vegas. The girls are due to play London, Manchester, Cologne and Madrid during December and January. They return to North America for concerts in Boston, Toronto, New York and Chicago at the end of January and hope to finalise dates in Cape Town, Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Sydney and Buenos Aires.
