With schools across the north east breaking up for the summer, Aberdeen Airport is bracing itself for one of the busiest days it has seen in 2009.

Reports from the airport anticipate more than 11,000 passengers will pass through the Dyce terminal on Friday, July 3 alone, with popular travel destinations including Dublin, Paris and London.

Kevin Brown, managing director of Aberdeen Airport said: "We are looking forward to the start of the busy summer season. With thousands of people passing through this weekend alone, we expect this will be our busiest of the year so far.

"Passengers who have not travelled through the terminal since last year's holiday are in for a big surprise, with major improvements having taken place over the last 12 months, and further investment still going on. No only have we just begun transforming international arrivals and departures but we also have brand new cafes and bars. We are celebrating our 75th birthday this month, and investing heavily this year.

"Major works are also currently underway at the front of the terminal building, with the construction of a multi-million pound parking deck. My advice to passengers would be to leave as much time for their journey to the airport as possible, so they can familiarise themselves with the new surroundings."
