Sunshine getaways for Bank Holiday

As Brits head off in search of the sun for the May Bank Holiday, low fares airline easyJet says that holidays in Spain and Portugal are most popular.

The budget airline expects more than 450,000 people on its flights over the May Bank Holiday and says the nation’s favourite destinations are Alicante, Faro and Malaga.

But the most popular city break destination is closer to home – Edinburgh. Next most popular city break destinations are Amsterdam, Barcelona and Geneva. The latter also owes its popularity to people seeking a late skiing holiday.

“More people than ever are taking advantage of their Bank Holiday weekends, with over 450,000 passengers jetting off across Europe with easyJet to soak up a little sun or experience a few cultural days away on a city break. It’s impossible to rely on the great British weather and, let’s face it, sunshine and relaxation is far more appealing than DIY,” comments easyJet consumer PR executive, Marianne West.

The continuing popularity of Alicante as a starting point for holidays in the Costa Blanca, and Benidorm in particular, is evident form easyJet’s decision to launch new flights from Manchester airport to the Spanish hotspot.

The low cost airline will launch flights from Manchester to Alicante on 29th September, offering four flights a week with fares from £27.99 one way or £47.98 return including tax.

“This announcement so soon after we commenced flying from Manchester is proof of the fantastic support we have had to date from the people of Manchester and surrounding areas,” says easyJet UK commercial manager, Carly Brear.
