Thomson Airways raises £200,000 for charity

Thomson Airways announced that it has successfully raised £200,000 from on-board collections for charity organisations.

The money, which was collected by airline staff asking for donations of spare foreign currency from travellers, is to be shared between the Family Holiday Association, then Born Free Foundation and charities local to airport bases. In July alone, over £70,000 was collected aboard Thomson flights.

The Family Holiday Association will provide an estimated 1,600 disadvantaged families the opportunity to travel in 2009 and will receive £100,000 from the money raised.

Abigail Pugh, fundraising liaison manager at the Family Holiday Association, said: "This is a fantastic achievement, we are so grateful to the Thomson cabin crew who have made such a superb effort. The money raised will help so many families who are in desperate need of a break away."

Carl Gissing, director of customer services for Thomson Airways, added: "We are a proud supporter of the Family Holiday Association and it is fantastic that our crew have been able to raise so much money for such a worthwhile cause. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our customers who have given generously over the last few months."
