Virgin Atlantic is enacting a new baggage allowance policy that will increase the allowance for those travellers with sporting equipment.
From November 25, 2009, Economy 1 passengers will be entitled to check-in one bag weighing up to 23kg; Premium Economy 2 passengers can check-in two bags weighing up to 23kg each; and Upper Class 3 passengers can check-in up to three bags each weighing up to 23kgs. Those wishing to check-in an additional bag will be charged an extra £32 per item when booked online.
The airline has also committed itself to offering one of the airline industry's most generous allowances for those with sporting equipment. All applicable passengers will be entitled to check-in one additional bag (weighing up to 23kg) that contains sporting equipment, such as a golf bag, scuba diving equipment or ski equipment. Virgin Atlantic is also the UK's only long-haul airline allowing passengers to check-in surfboards.
Chris Birch, head of product at Virgin Atlantic, said: "Passengers can now benefit from one of the simplest and most generous baggage policies in the industry. It means lower charges for passengers wishing to take additional bags and a great allowance for those going on a sporting trip."
Passengers possessing a ticket booked and ticketed before November 25 will be entitled to Virgin Atlantic's existing baggage allowance. Any bags exceeding 32kg will not be accepted.
