Virgin opens new terminal at Heathrow

Airport check-in

The Spice Girls and Sir Richard Branson have opened Virgin's new terminal at Heathrow, dubbed Terminal 6 by the airline.

The new terminal at Heathrow will handle over 60,000 passengers a week, and an estimated three million in the next year. Virgin claims that the new terminal is much quicker to get to from central London by car and by Heathrow Express than Heathrow's new Terminal 5 will be.

Sir Richard Branson, president of Virgin Atlantic, comments: "We've been secretly working on our plans for Terminal 6 for two years and are delighted that we can now show other airlines how check-in should be. Our new terminal is fast, efficient and seamless, and enables our business passengers to check-in from limo to lounge in just six minutes".

Virgin claims that its business class check in, the Upper Class Wing, provides the fastest check-in in the world with its own dedicated security corridor.

Virgin's new terminal at Heathrow forms part of a £1 billion redevelopment of Heathrow Terminal 3 over the next 10 years. "This futuristic terminal will outsmart T5 by providing our passengers with a seamless, faster and shorter journey through the airport, and goes to prove bigger is not always better," claims Sir Richard Branson.

The Spice Girls flew in from Los Angeles to help open the new terminal after naming a Virgin Atlantic Boeing 747 jet Spice One and were greeted by thousands of fans. Virgin Atlantic are the official airline partner for the Return of the Spice Girls world tour which reaches the UK this weekend.
