The Highways Agency are to carry out essential road maintenance works on the A120 near to Stansted Airport.
The works will be located on the Thremhall Avenue section of the A120 between its junction with M11 junction 8 and its junction with Priory Wood Roundabout near Stansted Airport. To carry out the resurfacing works safely, it will be necessary to close the A120 in one direction at a time and, in order to minimise disruption, the road closures will be over the weekend periods.
The programmed dates for the road closures are as follows:
Eastbound Carriageway: 8.00pm Friday 25th November through to 4.00am Monday 28th November 2005.
Westbound Carriageway: 8.00pm Friday 2nd December through to 4.00am Monday 5th December 2005.
The above should be sufficient to complete the resurfacing. However, if in the event of inclement weather it is not possible to finish the works, it may be necessary for closures during the following weekend -Friday 9th December to Monday 12th December 2005.
For the Eastbound closure - A120 Eastbound traffic will be diverted along B1256 to rejoin the A120 at the Great Dunmow West junction, at which point airport traffic will need to return along the A120 westbound to access Stansted airport.
For the Westbound closure - A120 Westbound traffic will be diverted along the B1256 to rejoin the A120 and M11 Northbound at M11 Junction 8. Traffic from the airport heading to M11 North or A120 will be diverted eastwards along the A120 to then follow the diversion along the B1256.
Traffic to and from M11 south will not be affected by the closures.
In addition to the road closures, drainage repair works will be carried out under weekday lane closures between 9.30am and 3.30pm and 8.00pm and 4.00am. The drainage repair works are programmed to start on Monday 21st November 2005.
