Written by Willy Russell and immensely popular on the West End, Blood Brothers has undergone some cast changes at the Phoenix Theatre.
The West End musical now features X-Factor finalist Nikki Evans as Mrs Johnstone.
Currently playing at the Phoenix Theatre, Blood Brothers is unique amongst the current crop of long running musicals in that this is the second incarnation of the show on the West End. Willy Russell's show first opened on the West End in 1985 at the Lyric Theatre. After an initially poor reception, the rights were picked up by Bill Kenwright and the show was revamped and opened again in 1987 and has continued to remain popular since. It transferred to it's current location in 1991.
This West End musical tells the story of twins, separated at birth whose paths cross again years later in friendship and anger. The production examines the nature vs. nurture debate as the twins' different backgrounds take them to opposite ends of the social spectrum. When both twins fall in love with the same girl there's some intense and dramatic results.
