The brand new West End musical Dirty Dancing proved just as popular as the 1987 film version when tickets went on sale recently.
Not due to open in the West End at the Aldwych theatre until October of this year, Dirty Dancing has already grossed £3 million in ticket sales. The popular story of Baby and dance teacher Johnny from the cult classic film of the same title, has been adapted for the stage by original creator Eleanor Bergstein and with the London cast still to be decided producers are amazed at the demand for tickets.
The raunchy new musical has sold out of tickets for the first two and a half months of performances in the West End despite not opening for a further six months. A spokesperson for the show exclaimed, "this show has become the fastest to achieve such a level of sales in such a short period of time - this is unprecedented demand."
A box office hit in Australia and now a box office hit in the UK, Dirty Dancing joins the high level of entertainment the West End is offering this year with a number of brand new musicals to keep theatregoers satisfied.
