The long-running, hugely popular French revolution musical Les Misérables has announced major cast changes from June 25th.
Existing leads John Owen-Jones (Valjean) and Hans Peter Janssens (Javert) will be joined at the Queen's Theatre by Gary Watson as Marius, Edward Baruwa as Enjolras, Melanie La Barrie as Madame Thénardier, Cassandra Compton as Epoine and Claire-Marie Hall as Cosette. The roles of Fantine and Thénardier will continue to be played by Joanna Ampil and Chris Vincent respectively.
Edward Baruwa has appeared in several London stage productions including The Gershwin's Porgy and Bess, Dancing in the Streets and Jerry Springer The Opera. La Barrie starred in the recent Daddy Cool as Pearl and was the original Mrs Corry in the West End production of Mary Poppins.
Keen eyed reality-television viewers may remember Cassandra Compton, she was a runner up in the 2004 X Factor and has since gone on to theatre roles that include a part in Whistle Down The Wind. Les Misérables will mark the West End debut for Claire-Marie Hall.
Set in the Parisian underground during the French revolution, Les Misérables is produced by Cameron Mackintosh. The musical has been seen by more than 54 million people across 38 different countries and translated into 21 different languages.
