A documentary about the making of the Phantom of the Opera Stage show is part of the schedule on Boxing day this Christmas. The documentary will be broadcast on BBC2 - Boxing day at 9pm.

The documentary, called Phantom of the Opera : Behind The Mask, features interviews with Andrew Lloyd Webber, Sarah Brightman and Michael Crawford.

The TV programme includes interviews with the original creative team Lloyd Webber, Cameron Mackintosh, director Hal Prince and lyricist Richard Stilgoe.

Michael Crawford, the original leading man, returns to Her Majesty’s Theatre stage for the first time since he performed in the show’s title role. Michael makes a nostalgic journey to reminisce about the part that won him a coveted Olivier Award.

The documentary allows an insight into the behind stage world of the Phantom - a fascinating insight for theatre goers. The film shows archive clips outlining the development and process of making a hit London blockbuster. Interviews with the people that are involved in casting and rehearsals, lyricists, make-up artists, musicians, choreographers and the design team all make gripping viewing for theatre buffs on Boxing day..

Footage from Lloyd Webber’s private Sydmonton Festival show the changes and development of the show in its early stages of production - the lyrics, scenic treatment and designs all changed before the Phantom of the Opera reached the West End. The show faced last minute hiccups prior to the opening night, including singer Steve Harley's (of Cockney Rebel Fame) decision to quit the show weeks before it began.

The Documentary Phantom of the Opera Behind the Mask looks like being a "must watch" Boxing day TV - Tune in to BBC 2 at 9PM on Boxing day.
