The Opera's new youngest Phantom

After running for almost 22 years, the West End sensation The Phantom of The Opera is to close, though don't worry - it's only for four nights to allow for a sound upgrade at the theatre.

The second longest-running musical in the West End, The Phantom of The Opera will not be showing this week at Her Majesty's theatre as the venue receives a new sound system upgrade to enhance enjoyment of the show. Prior to the recently announced extended booking period it had not been possible to stop the show without causing disruption to advance bookings.

Andrew Lloyd Webber stated: "The most recent productions of The Phantom of the Opera around the world from Vegas to China have the most fantastic sound systems. It is wonderful that the flagship London production will now have the newest and best of them all to get the best of our huge cast and the largest orchestra in the West End."

The improved digital sound system will double the amount of microphones used in the show with three microphones used by the Phantom. Over 10 kilometres of cable, 120 speakers and a digital sound desk will mean audiences will hear the cast and orchestra of The Phantom of The Opera like never before when shows resume on May 8th.

This musical has been seen by more than 100 million people in over 124 cities across the world.
