Award winning comedian Sanjeev Bhaskar set to take on the role of King Arthur

Spamalot

Best known for his role in tongue-in-cheek celebrity chat show The Kumars at no. 43. Sanjeev Bhaskar OBE is preparing to make his West End debut in the phenomenally popular Monty Python stage show Spamalot in the role of the slow witted but well intentioned King Arthur.

Sanjeev will be taking over from Ugly Betty actor Alan Dale and with the likes of Tim Curry among the show’s ex-Arthurs he certainly has big boots to fill, but with two Emmys, a British comedy award and several BAFTA nominations under his belt Sanjeev certainly has the credentials for the job and no doubt his unique comedic touch will build upon the sound foundations laid down by his forebears.

Written by retired python Eric Idle with music by Meaning of Life score writer John Du Prez, Spamalot bills itself as a “lovingly ripped off” version of Monty Python and the Holy Grail. As you would expect, it follows the accepted python formula of satire and near-lethal levels of wackiness with fish slapping, cow flinging and murderous rabbits featured on stage for possibly the first time.

Having received rave reviews from critics and fans alike both on the West End and Broadway and with the show poised to take a break from the West End for the UK tour in 2009 Sanjeev Bhaskar could well be the last big name King Arthur Spamalot sees for a while so now may be the ideal time to catch the show with all the glamour of the Palace Theatre and a freshly rehearsed lead.
