The Sound of Music's New Captain Von Trapp

The Sound of Music will be getting a new Captain Von Trapp when Simon Burk takes over from Alexander Hansen.

Australian born actor Simon Burk is no stranger to London's West End. His previous theatre credits include playing Bill Flynn in Chicago, Raoul in The Phantom of the Opera along with roles in A Little Night Music and Anything Goes. Burk also played the role of Marius in the original cast for the Australian production of Les Misérables. At the young age of 13, Simon Burk won the AFI Award for best actor for his performance in the film The Devils Playground.

With a booking period until 29th May 2008, The Sound of Music currently stars Connie Fisher as Maria for six performances a week. Fisher is confirmed in the role until 23rd February 2008. For the remaining two performances a week - Sunday evening and Wednesday matinees - the role of Maria is played by Aofie Mulholland. Margaret Preece stars as Mother Abbess.

The Sound of Music opened in November 2006 after much anticipation following the televised talent search How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria? Produced by Andrew Lloyd Webber and David Ian, this hugely successful West End musical has been delighting audiences since opening night.
