Many TOP West End shows have extended their run in London. This news has damned reports that interest in London theatre has waned since the bombings in July 2005. Some journalists had speculated that London tourism and the theatre would suffer greatly as a result of the attacks last summer but all the evidence is to the contrary.
New London shows are being launched and many existing London shows have been extended. These shows have all been extended due to popular demand for London theatre tickets and many London shows have been playing to full houses in recent months.
Having opened in 1952 the Agatha Christie thriller The Mousetrap is the longest running production in theatre history, so a further extension comes as no surprise to West End producers. With one of the best kept endings and sell out audiences after more than 50 years The Mousetrap will continue to play at the St Martin's Theatre for a further 6 months. The close date is now scheduled for May 12th 2007.
Second to announce an extension is the heart wrenching story of twin boys separated at birth, the powerfully emotive and gripping Blood Brothers. Willy Russell's story of the endurance of family ties has been entertaining in the West End since 1988 and will now continue to at the Phoenix Theatre until the 1st September 2007. A whopping seven month extension!
The Phantom of the Opera is also prolonging its West End run, adding a further 11 months. The Andrew Lloyd Webber production remains a hit with audiences across the globe, selling out on both Broadway and in the West End night after night. The haunting production is certainly worth watching and creates the perfect theatre break package.
