Alton Towers opens as usual

Monday 29th October

Yesterday evening at 7.35pm, a fire in one of the Skyride stations was reported by a member of staff.

The ride had been closed for some time, so there were no guests in the area. The fire service was called at 7.37pm and Alton towers' own security people attended the scene to try to extinguish the fire at 7.38pm.

No guests were involved and the Forbidden Valley, which includes rollercoasters Nemesis and Air, was evacuated as a precautionary measure and to allow easier access for the fire services.

Three fire appliances were on site by 8pm.

The cause of the Alton Towers fire is yet to be determined and the Skyride will remain closed for the remainder of the season.

Alton Towers will open as usual at 9.30am this morning (29th Oct) , with the Forbidden Valley area of the Park re-opening as soon as the clean up operation is complete.
