Oman adds new luxury holiday options
The latest addition to Oman's choice of luxury holiday accommodation is the Desert Nights Camp, giving guests a chance to experience life in the desert.
The Desert Nights Camp is situated at Camp al Wasil in the vast expanse of Oman's desert. Guests can enjoy nights around the campfire and watch the sun set over the Wahiba plains before retiring to a Bedouin style tent with air conditioned bedrooms, bathroom and living area. During the day there is the choice of desert safaris, camel rides, dune bashing in a 4 x 4 jeep, and wadi bashing.
Another luxury hotel that has recently opened in Oman is the Evason Six Senses Resort, which joins other 5 star hotels in Oman including The Chedi, Shangri-la Barr Al Jissah Resort, Al Nahda Resort and Grand Hyatt. The Chedi in Muscat was recently voted the second best hotel in the world by readers of Conde Nast Traveller magazine.
In Muscat, one of the city's major architectural landmarks and the tallest building in Oman, The Sheraton Hotel, will re-open in October after an extensive refurbishment programme.
A major new multi-million pound resort, The Wave in Muscat, is set to open in 2010. The resort will feature luxury hotels from Fairmont and Kempinski as well as villas, restaurants, shops, a 300 berth marina and an 18 hole golf course designed by Greg Norman making it ideal for sailing holidays and golf holidays.
Oman Air began daily flights from Gatwick to Muscat last November after a major rise in the number of visitors to Oman from the UK. The UK and Ireland is the top tourism producing region for Oman, now providing more than 125,000 visitors a year.
