Tenerife will be the setting for the Hollywood remake of the epic Clash of the Titans.

Warner Bros. is currently constructing a film set on the Canary Island and will also feature locations including the Icod de los Vinos, Buenavista del Norte, Guía de Isora and much of the island's mountainous landscape.

A 350-strong production team is due to start work on the island on May 15. About 100 local people will be hired as extras and Tenerife-based company, Sur Production & Services, will assist with the production.

José Manuel Bermúdez, the First Vice President and Councillor for Tourism at the Tenerife Island Government, says: “Our diverse landscape, topography and balmy climate make it an ideal choice, particularly for many of the adventure scenes.”

The Tenerife base was chosen by location manager, Robin Higgs, who has previously worked on the Pirates of the Caribbean and Harry Potter films.

Originally filmed in 1981, the new film is due to be released in March 2010. The international cast includes Sam Worthington as Perseus, the mortal son of Zeus, Liam Neeson as the mighty Zeus, King of the Gods, and Ralph Fiennes as Hades, god of the underworld.

If you fancy exploring the set of this classic battle you can fly to Tenerife from a variety of UK airports with Monarch Airlines, Thomas Cook Airlines and First Choice.
