Aer Lingus, Ireland's flag carrier, has launched a new service from Dublin to Washington DC.
The airline began flights on the new route on August 3rd, making it the first European carrier to take advantage of the recent Open Skies agreement between the EU and the US.
Flights on the new route operate on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, departing from Ireland at 14:30 and arriving in the US at 17:10 local time.
Return flights leave the US capital at 19:30 local time and arrive back in Dublin at 07:20 the following day.
In addition, Aer Lingus plans to begin flights from Dublin to Orlando and San Francisco in October.
Dermot Mannion, Aer Lingus' chief executive, welcomed the Open Skies agreement, saying: "The removal of constraints on Aer Lingus' expansion into the US is hugely significant for both the airline and the country."
Other airlines also plan to offer more flights to the US as a result of the Open Skies plan. In particular, American Airlines will begin services from Stansted to New York's JFK Airport in October.
