E-tickets Available On All KLM Routes

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has announced that its passengers will now be able to purchase e-tickets for any of its 124 destinations.

When tickets are booked online with the carrier, the relevant data is automatically recorded in KLM's computer system, meaning that customers are only required to show their identity document when checking in.

The operator claims that it is "leading the international airline industry" in the replacement of traditional tickets with e-tickets.

Martijn van der Zee, vice-president of distribution and e-commerce with the airline, said: "The convenience of e-ticketing on all KLM routes is not only a milestone for us, but also for our customers.

"An e-ticket cannot be lost or stolen, because it is always safely listed under the passenger's name in our computer systems. Soon everyone will travel on an e-ticket, regardless of whether they buy it online or via a travel agency."

Currently 89 per cent of all KLM bookings are made with e-tickets and the airline stated its intention to raise this to 100 per cent by January 2008.
