Xmas 'as Popular As Summer For Holidays'

The Christmas period enjoys the same level of popularity as the summer with Brits deciding when to take a holiday, it has been claimed.

According to the Association of British Travel Agents (Abta), the quiet nature of the workplace over the festive period makes it an ideal time for Britons to grab a break.

"Christmas is one of the busiest travel periods. Along with August, Christmas is the biggest time people choose to go on holiday," an Abta spokesperson said.

"Partly because of the time they get off, and partly because it's just one of those times where things aren't happening in the office."

The Abta member said that Spain, particularly the Canary Islands, is the most popular destination over the Christmas period, as the guarantee of warm weather is welcome to people who dislike the harsh British winter.

"You also get people going to the ski destinations around that time too; places like France, Austria and Italy," she concluded.
