More and more Brits prefer to jet off for the festive period, looking either for some warmer weather or a wintrier feel.
Britain can usually guarantee bad weather at Christmas, but not always the snow visitors to New York are likely to experience.
Los Angeles on the other hand offers a chance to escape the cold altogether.
A spokesperson for Heathrow said the two US destinations were definitely in the top ten for people using the airport.
"It is fair to say that New York and Los Angeles remain one of the top destinations for travel from Heathrow over the Christmas period," she said.
The weak US dollar, which is trading at more than $2 to the pound, is encouraging more Brits to consider a transatlantic flight.
