Virgin Atlantic to fly to Mauritius

Virgin Atlantic is to begin non-stop flights to Mauritius this week.

Virgin Atlantic is to launch its inaugural non-stop flight from Mauritius on October 28th, which will operate on a twice-weekly basis.

An Airbus A340-300 aircraft will be used on the route offering 240 seats - 34 in upper class, 35 in premium economy and 171 in economy class.

Upon landing in Mauritius on the morning of October 29th, the plane will be greeted by a traditional 'water salute' from the airport fire brigade and passengers will be welcomed by a local Creole band.

Andrew Fyfe, Virgin Atlantic's regional manager for the Middle East and Indian Ocean, said he was "really excited" that the carrier is to serve the island of Mauritius and pointed out that it is the operator's first destination in the Indian Ocean.

"Mauritius offers a range of relaxing spa centres and elegant hotels," he added.

"Passengers will be spoilt for choice by the range of top class hotels, fine dining opportunities, excellent water sports and world-class golf courses on this tropical paradise."

Mauritius, which lies off the west coast of Madagascar, is Virgin Atlantic's 29th international destination. Its 30th, Kingston in Jamaica, is also set to launch this week.
