Virgin to boost Jamaican operations

Virgin Atlantic is to commence a codesharing agreement with Air Jamaica on November 18th, which will lead to improvements in service to the island.

Virgin Atlantic customers will receive a more comprehensive service to Jamaica from this weekend when the airline commences its codesharing agreement with Air Jamaica on November 18th.

The sharing of flight codes between the two carriers will mean that passengers will be offered four direct services to Jamaica every week as well as more internal connections to the island's two main cities, Kingston and Montego Bay.

This agreement follows Virgin's introduction of flights between London Gatwick and Kingston at the end of October and the launch of services last year between Gatwick and Montego Bay.

Steve Ridgway, chief executive of the UK airline, said that the Jamaican tourism industry will "benefit enormously" from this expansion of services.

He added: "We intend to offer a comprehensive network of connections between our three UK airports – Gatwick, Heathrow and Manchester – and Jamaica via our US and Caribbean gateways, and in future we will look to build up connecting traffic via Jamaica to other points in the Caribbean region."

Virgin Atlantic is a long-haul airline serving some 30 destinations worldwide, including New York, Cape Town, Dubai, Delhi and Sydney.
