The Globe's friendly, knowledgeable tour guides will show you around the stunning recreation of the most famous Elizabethan playhouse on the planet. You will be invited to explore the history of the Globe itself, learning all of the theatre's most intimate secrets.

You will step back in time to the 17th Century and truly experience theatre as it was for the people of Elizabethan London. The Globe's talented guides will tell you and your group all about Shakespeare's London, his theatre and his life in an easily understandable and family friendly style.

Globe Trivia

  • The Globe once crossed the Thames, ask your tour guide to find out how.
  • The original Globe Theatre was destroyed in 1613 when the blast from a stage cannon ignited the flammable straw roof, remarkably nobody was seriously hurt.
  • Shakespeare's Globe as we see it today is a reconstruction built in the 1990s. The site of the actual Globe is roughly 200 meters away.
  • Twelve other Globe Theatre replicas have been built around the world.

Shakespeare's Globe Opening Hours

Monday - Saturday 1pm to 5pm (From 23rd April the tour will be taken to the Rose Theatre site)
Sunday: 9am - 11.30am

NB: There is no access to the theatre during matineé performances. Visitors will be taken to the nearby site of the Rose, Bankside's first playhouse.

Tours begin every 15-30 minutes during opening hours
