Billy Elliot - Songs from the London Show

Billy Elliot the musical, now showing at the Victoria Palace Theatre in London's West End, has been described by one critic as 'the best British musical since Oliver'. The story line for the London theatre production follows that of the hugely successful film.

Billy Elliot - Music and Lyrics

Music: Elton John
Lyrics: Lee Hall

The British pop soundtrack in the original film was mostly by Mark Bolam's T Rex, with other tracks from The Clash and The Style Council. Elton John has composed a very different score for the London show with lyrics written by Lee Hall.

The songs from Billy Elliot range from rousing choruses to moving lullabyes including a mix of different styles: rock, classical and disco. As most of the musical is set in a Northern England mining town, Elton John has also tried to embrace the northern music influences of hymns, folk, brass bands and male choirs.

Billy Elliot - The Soundtrack

'Electricity', the lead song from Billy Elliot was released as a single by Elton on July 11th 2005 and proved to be a hit.

Elton has recorded the song to celebrate the fantastic success of Billy Elliot musical. The powerful tune 'Electricity'is used to convey to the audience the emotions Billy feels when he dances. Other memorable songs from the show include 'Solidarity' which is very upbeat and like something from Cabaret, the emotive ballad 'Dear Billy (Mam's Letter)' and witty 'We'd go Dancing'
