Now Showing: Blood Brothers Book Blood Brothers at The Phoenix Theatre on line
Blood Brothers tells the story of twin brothers separated at birth. The boys are brought up in very different circumstances. Life goes on but cracks slowly form, resulting in some of the most gripping musical theatre currently on stage in the West End.
The Building Design of The Phoenix Theatre
The Phoenix was designed by Giles Gilbert Scott, Bertie Crewe and Cecil Masey, with Theodore Komisarjevsky as Art Director. The beautiful theatre has a distinctly Italian flavour. The entrance is a canopied rotunda with four columns, topped by an attic with square windows. Inside, the auditorium shines with gold leaf, decorated ceilings and sculpted doors. The safety curtain is a realisation of Jacopo del Sellaio's The Triumph of Love.
The History of The Phoenix Theatre
The Phoenix Theatre opened in 1930 with the premier of Private Lives by Noel Coward. The first cast included Noel Coward himself, Gertrude Lawrence, Adrienne Allen and Laurence Olivier.
Since it's opening the theatre has had a very successful history. Even during the war the theatre wasn't dark, showing a range of plays including John Gielgud's Love for Love. In 1968 a new musical adaptation of Chaucer's Canterbury Tales was staged and ran for 2000 performances. During the eighties the Phoenix staged a number of award winning musicals as well as a season of Shakespeare plays.
The current production of Blood Brothers has been showing at the Phoenix since 1991 and is the theatre's longest show.
Facilities at The Phoenix Theatre
The auditorium at The Phoenix Theatre is air-conditioned, has infra-red sound amplification and caters for wheelchair users. Location of The Phoenix Theatre
The Phoenix Theatre is situated on the corner of Charing Cross Road and Flitcroft Street in London's West End.
