The Cambridge Theatre

Now Showing: Chicago
Book the Chicago at The Cambridge Theatre

Chicago is a dazzling show which tells the tale of jazz sensation Velma Kelly and wannabe singer Roxie Hart. Both are in jail awaiting trial for murder, their lives in the hands of Billy Flynn, a silver-tongued lawyer who knows how to play the system. Chicago is a fantastic, slick musical with sassy choreography and brilliant music.

The Building Design of the Cambridge Theatre

Modern and built of steel and concrete, the Cambridge is not the most attractive of all the London theatres, but is distinguishable for its clean lines, elegance and Art Deco design.

The theatre has undergone a number of interior changes - in 1950 the original gold and silver decor was painted red and chandeliers and candelabras added to enhance the majesty of the auditorium. In 1987, Carl Toms returned the interior to its original splendor, refurbishing the theatre to it's gold and silver colour scheme.

The impressive auditorium holds over 1,200 people on three levels, and the classic decor enhances the overall ambience of the theatre.

The History of the Cambridge Theatre

The Cambridge theatre has had a very checkered past, and through the years has been home to ice dancing, a cinema, trade filming, an opera company, as well as theatrical productions.

The beautiful auditorium has been host to a number of respected and well known theatrical figures, including Lawrence Olivier in 1970, Bruce Forsyth and Tommy Steele. Not to mention a number of productions ranging from Shakespeare's The Tempest to the controversial Jerry Springer - The Opera.

The Cambridge theatre has been associated with short runs and dark periods, during which the theatre was used for filming and later as a cinema. In more recent times the theatre has been the site of a number of popular productions, including illusionist Derren Brown's tour Something Wicked This Way Comes and since July 2005 Dancing In The Streets.
