Go Greased Lightening!

Dig out those Pink Ladies and T-Bird jackets as Grease is set to re-appear in the West End. ITV's brand new talent show "Grease Is The Word" (the brainchild of Simon Cowell) will begin in April, David Guest, Sinitta and theatre producers David Ian and Paul Nicholas will sift through thousands of hopeful Danny Zukos and Sandy Dumbrowskis to find the perfect leads for the popular stage production. The cult classic Grease will be back in the West End for August summer nights, so prepare to sing along with those catchy songs and join in with the sensational dance moves at the Piccadilly Theatre.

The Obsession with the Grease began after the 1978 film version starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, however the 1972 Broadway version still proved a massive hit and it's popularity still remains - drawing in big stars to play the lead roles.

Grease - The Story

Grease the musical is set in 1959 at the fictional school Rydell High in Chicago, Danny Zuko and the T-Birds are the 'cool' gang at school who would rather smoke, comb their hair and fix up racing cars than attend classes. Danny, the lead T-Bird, spends his summer with innocent Sandy Dee and shows her his gentle side as he thinks she is going back to Australia at the end of the summer. Sandy's parents decide to stay and she ends up enrolling at Rydell High only to bump into the egotistical Danny and find friends in the feisty Pink Ladies. Danny must find a way to keep his 'cool' persona and get the girl or he could get up losing one or the other for good. Tackling teenage issues such as love, friendship, rebellion, sexual exploration, gang violence and pregnancy, Grease is bursting at the seams with entertainment.

ITV's 'Grease Is The Word' was launched April 7th and it has already proven a very popular contender in the battle of the musicals against BBC's "Any Dream Will Do'. There will be previews of the Grease stage show at London's Piccadilly Theatre from 17th July, and it will open fully in the first week of August. Book your Grease London theatre break with Holiday Extras® and we'll give you a great deal on your tickets and hotel stay - so you can warm up your summer nights with some musical magic!
