Ambassadors Seating Plan

The Building Design of The Ambassadors Theatre
Designed by the architect W G R Sprague, and officially opened on June 5th 1913, the Ambassadors theatre is a small and intimate venue for theatrical productions. The proscenium arched stage is ideal for the revue style productions that have been shown at the Ambassadors in its lavish history.
The venue is presented in its traditional Louis XVI style with elegant and lavish decoration, as well as the single horseshoe-shaped balcony just a few steps from the ground level.

The History of The Ambassadors Theatre
First opened in 1913 and intended as a companion to its neighbour the St. Martin's, the Ambassadors is generally smaller than most West End theatres. The theatre was conceived as a small venue to encourage more intimate performances and productions.

The Ambassadors is famous for showing Agatha Christie's The Mousetrap from its opening in 1952 until it moved to St. Martin's in 1974, where it is still performed today! Other famous works that have found their way to the Ambassadors include 84 Charing Cross Road, Waiting for Godot and most recently the Little Shop of Horrors.

In 1996, the venue was purchased by the Ambassadors Theatre Group and renamed the New Ambassadors. The intention was to provide a venue for original, contemporary productions although the change was short-lived and commercial West End usage resumed.

Sir Stephen Waley-Cohen purchased the theatre in 2007 and immediately returned its original name of The Ambassadors. With Stomp arriving at The Ambassadors in September 2007, there is also rumour that The Mousetrap will be making a return to its first home sometime in the near future.

Facilities at The Ambassadors Theatre
The Ambassadors Theatre welcomes both guide dogs and hearing dogs. Unfortunately due to restrictions, the theatre can only accommodate wheelchair transfers.
Location of The Ambassadors Theatre
The Ambassadors Theatre is on West Street near Leicester Square.
