5 Once In A Lifetime Trips

Places that have to be seen once in your life...

Never beaten on price

We’ve all got a list of things we want to do and places we’d like to see when time and money are no object. Take a look at these five once in a lifetime trips, and get dreaming!

Tour the Amazon rainforest

The awesome Amazon rainforest is a 5,500,000 square kilometre expanse of moist broadleaf forest in South America’s Amazon Basin, covering parts of Brazil, Peru, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Bolivia, Guyana, Suriname and French Guiana. The Amazon rainforest accounts for more than half of the Earth’s remaining rainforests and is the most biodiverse in the world, with an array of incredible wildlife, a formidable river and many native communities. No wonder so many of us want to experience it in our lifetime. Great for intrepid couples, friends, families and solo travellers.

Travel across Africa by private jet

Africa is such a huge and diverse land, with so much to experience from its unique wildlife and spectacular landscapes to vibrant cities, indigenous peoples and rich cultures. Where do you start if you want to see everything?

Amazingly, it’s possible to do all of this in one rip-roarer of a trip. Abercrombie & Kent have an itinerary named ‘Africa: Across a Continent by Private Jet’ which includes Ethiopia and its Christian heritage, Uganda and the infamous mountain gorillas, Tanzania and the Serengeti, Zambia and Victoria Falls, Botswana’s wildlife, Namibia and its desert dunes, and contemporary Cape Town. They don’t disclose the price on their website, so you’d better get saving. Perfect for high-flying couples and friends.

Cruise around the world

There are times in your life when what you want from a holiday is to put your feet up and let other people take care of everything - with sumptuous accommodation, top class cuisine and fantastically exotic destinations thrown in too. Now is the time to book a luxury cruise: a trip for well-heeled couples and solo travellers.

Crystal Cruiseshas a selection of full world cruises, from a whopping £23,097 per person for a 102-day tour starting in San Francisco and taking in the Pacific Ocean, Great Barrier Reef, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Hong Kong, China, South Korea, Japan, Russia, Alaska in the US and British Colombia, Canada. For those with smaller budgets (which, let's be honest, is most of us!), there are plenty of cheaper cruise trips to choose from.

Trek to the Everest basecamp

Getting a close-up view of the spectacular Himalayas is something pretty special. And while climbing Mount Everest itself might only be for the few, trekking to the Everest Base Camp is something that many of us can achieve if we put our minds to it. As well as crossing glaciers, broad plains and valleys, and climbing high passes in the shadow of the mighty mountain (the planet’s highest peak), you’ll also get to experience Nepal’s breathtaking scenery, colourful culture and welcoming people. The ideal holiday for active couples, friends and solo travellers.

The Adventure Company offers an Everest Base Camp package from £748 per person excluding flights and £1,784 including flights.

Make little dreams come true on an American theme park holiday

For the family holiday of a lifetime, Florida is hard to beat. Offering glorious sunshine and warmth for most of the year, Orlando is also home to the mighty Walt Disney World Resort, Universal Orlando Resort, SeaWorld and Wet n’ Wild, as well as top shopping, eating, museums, galleries, entertainment and the nearby Everglades, a lush wetland area perfect for an airboat trip. Great for fun-loving families and couples.

Virgin Holidays sells a range of Orlando holidays, from around £1,100 per person in August for a family of four including flights, hotel accommodation and car hire.
