Leeds Bradford International Airport has re-opened for business after record snowfall across the UK caused widespread delays.

Leeds Bradford International airport re-opened for business this morning at 10am, with flights once again able to depart from the airport. The exceptional weather experienced in the region led to widespread problems after 8" of snow fell in just 12 hours.

Leeds Bradford airport staff have worked continually over the last 36 hours to ensure that the airport would be operational as soon as possible. Their snow team, supported by airport management, worked tirelessly to return the airport to action as soon as possible. The work concentrated on the clearing of the runway, aprons and taxiways ensuring they were clear of ice and snow, allowing aircraft to taxi safely.

Leeds Bradford airports Commercial and Aviation Development Director Tony Hallwood thanked passengers for their understanding during the adverse weather conditions saying:

“We wish to thank all our passengers for their patience and understanding given the heavy snowfalls over the last two days. We are now working hard with our business partners and airlines to clear the backlog of flights as quickly as possible; further delays can be expected for the remainder of today."
