Liverpool John Lennon airport staff have urged passengers to take note of current baggage restrictions and pack their hand luggage carefully this summer.
JLA has reiterated the importance of adhering to the limits in place after one passenger attempted to carry 13 bottles of liquid in their hand baggage.
Restrictions on liquids in hand baggage state that liquids, gels and aerosols can be carried in individual 100ml containers which fit easily in a clear re-sealable bag no larger than 20cm x 20cm. Passengers are advised though to pack perfumes and toiletries in their hold luggage.
Liquids include sun cream, shampoo, conditioner and insect repellant as well as more obvious items such as water or infant formula.
Andy Gower, Airport Director at JLA said:
“The summer holidays are an extremely busy time for JLA, therefore to avoid costly mistakes for passengers and to keep queuing times to a minimum, we're asking passengers to come prepared and to think about what they are carrying in their hand luggage. We are asking all passengers to help us, to help them and avoid some of the disappointment we have already seen in the past few days.
“When items are discovered in hand luggage which exceed the volumes allowed or do not comply with the restrictions, we have no alternative but to confiscate them, slowing down the security process for other passengers and causing disappointment for the individual concerned...”
The airport has also reminded travellers that they are limited to one item of hand luggage, with a maximum size of 56cm x 45cm x 25cm.
