With 1,036,135 passengers July was a record breaking month for Birmingham International. 2008 was the highest July on record and the first time that the airport has broken the one million passenger barrier. The 718,958 scheduled passengers and 317,177 charter travellers represented a 7.5% increase over 2007, helped in part by new flights operating to Biarritz, Bratislava, Bydgoszcz, Gdansk, Olbia, Perpignan, Stockholm and Trapani. With new flights starting to Istanbul and an extra ten routes coming from Ryanair later in the year the future certainly looks bright for Birmingham.
It wasn't just July that was breaking records either, the airport reported a 4.3% rise in passengers to 9.5m for the last 12 months, which is a significant increase.
