The Airports Council International has awarded Manchester airport with the Best Airport Award 2008 in the 10-25 million passenger category.
The fourth Annual ACI Europe Best Airport Awards were held in Paris this week and the judges praised Manchester airport's "simple, innovative approach to attracting airlines." The judges also praised the Airport for its commitment to environment with the aim to become carbon neutral by 2015.
The awards were attended by over 500 industry leaders, national government and EU officials with discussions centered around the environment, airport financing, aviation system capacity and security. Managing director for Manchester Airport Andrew Cornish stated: "These are challenging times in the aviation industry and we know that there are some excellent airports in Europe, so to win this prestigious award is particularly great news."
Manchester airport recently celebrated its 70th anniversary as an airport having begun service in 1938. Today the airport handles more than 22 million passengers a year and is on of the country's largest international airports.
