Things you need to know before travelling to Benidorm

A holiday to Benidorm promises crystal waters, fine sand beaches and delicious local cuisine. There's a lot to get excited about, but we've also got a few things you need to know before travelling to Benidorm, from weather tips to siesta advice. Weather

Knowing what the weather is going to be like before you head to Benidorm will help you decide what time of year you should book your holiday for. The summer temperatures average out at 26°C, spring has an average high of 21°C and autumn of 25°C. In winter, it varies from 7-17°C. There are activities for each month of the year, though - including beaches, theme parks, water parks, wildlife attractions and museums.

Beaches and water parks

Along Benidorm's coast you'll find all kinds of beaches, from golden sands to rugged coves. The most popular is Levante - it's urban and lined with cafes and bars. A little further away there's Playa Cala Tio Ximo, which is small and rocky with a path to the naturist area. If you're in Benidorm for water parks, there are loads to choose from. Aqualandia is in the centre of the town, Aqua Natura is in the outskirts next to Terra Natura while Aquapark Rojales is huge and just over 100km from Benidorm.

Food

In Benidorm you should, of course, eat your fill of tapas - a Mediterranean staple consisting of a number of small dishes, normally shared. You'll find lots of tapas joints in the heart of the town centre. Rice dishes are also a must - served with dried red peppers, garlic shoots, chicken or pork. And seafood is the order of the day. Be sure to try shellfish, shrimp, red mullet and whiting.

Siesta

When planning your day out in Benidorm, remember to consider siestas. More traditional and local shop opening hours are generally 10am-2pm then 4:30pm-8:30pm - while larger, tourist-oriented places stay open normally all day from 10am-10pm. Similarly, restaurants are open 1:00pm-4:30pm then 8:30pm-00:30am, but places aimed at British tourists are likely to abide by the customs of their home country.
