Low cost airline Wizz Air is today celebrating four years of offering flights to Central and Eastern European countries including Poland, Romania and Hungary.

Wizz Air claims to be the leading low fares airline in Central and Eastern Europe and has enjoyed spectacular growth in its short history. Last year the airline carried 4.2 million passengers, a 40% increase on the previous year.

Earlier this year Wizz Air opened its seventh and eighth bases in Poznan, Poland and Cluj, Romania. The budget airline’s other bases include Warsaw, Katowice and Gdansk in Poland, Budapest in Hungary, Sofia in Bulgaria and Bucharest in Romania.

“Wizz Air continues to win the hearts and minds of millions of passengers travelling in Europe,” says the airline’s CEO, Jozsef Varadi. “Wizz Air is well positioned to become the single largest airline of all in Central and Eastern Europe in the near term," he adds.

This year Wizz Air says it is on track to fly more than 6 million passengers. It currently has a fleet of 19 Airbus A320 aircraft with an average age of 3 years, but has ambitious plans to increase its fleet to 82 aircraft by 2014.

In the UK Wizz Air offers flights from a large number of airports including Stansted, Luton airport, Liverpool airport, Durham Tees Valley airport, Belfast airport and Glasgow Prestwick airport.

The airline recently added new flights from Doncaster Sheffield airport to Warsaw, and is currently offering flights to Gdansk in Poland from Luton airport from £23.79 including taxes, and from Liverpool and Manchester airports to Warsaw from £27.79.
