Flights to New York

Zoom passengers left stranded by the collapse of the transatlantic low fares airline last week are being offered alternative flights by a number of airlines on routes between the UK, Canada and the USA.

Canadian Affair, the UK’s largest tour operator to Canada, has already added 15 more flights in September to take up the demand from Zoom passengers. New flights include Manchester to Vancouver on September 4th, Toronto to Gatwick on September 6th and a return flight the following day, and Toronto to Glasgow on September 7th, again with a return flight the next day.

The company says it also has strong forward bookings on its 65 direct non-stop weekly services between the UK and Canada as Zoom passengers with tickets for travel later this year or next year re-book. Flights operate from 11 airports in the UK and Ireland including Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester, Birmingham, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Belfast and Dublin to eight Canadian cities, including Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, Montreal and Edmonton.

"Our own business has been performing strongly this year and after a robust summer we expect to continue to perform well for the remainder of the year and thereon. We have the best leisure product on the market with the lowest fares guaranteed,” says Canadian Affair communication and marketing director, Kathryn Munro.

Virgin Atlantic has also stepped in to help stranded Zoom passengers. Virgin is offering Zoom ticket holders what it describes as “special one way fares” in economy from Heathrow to New York, Boston and Washington for £199; Heathrow to Miami and Chicago for £219; Gatwick to Orlando for £219; and Heathrow to Los Angeles for £249.

The airline stipulates that passengers must be booked and ticketed on a Zoom flight scheduled to depart by September 30th to qualify for these special fares.

Another airline operating flights from the UK to Canada, Flyglobespan, has announced flights on sale for summer 2009 which may be of interest to Zoom passengers who had booked to travel then. Flyglobespan operates flights to Canada from five UK airports – Gatwick, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Manchester, and Belfast. Fares for summer 2009 to Toronto (Hamilton) start from £179, and to Vancouver and Calgary from £219.
