Airport volunteers raise record amount for charity

More than 70 members of staff at Glasgow Airport have been honoured for their fundraising feats after raising tens of thousands of pounds for worthwhile causes.

The BAA I-Volunteer Awards, which recognise the work of BAA staff who give their time to the community, this year saw a record 71 entries from Glasgow, with two of the shortlisted applicants scooping the award for Most Supportive Manager and the runner-up prize for Best Volunteering Individual. The total raised by airport staff nearly reached the £20,000 mark.

Amanda McMillan, managing director of Glasgow Airport, said: "I am immensely proud of the many volunteers at Glasgow Airport who make a real difference in their communities. Glasgow Airport sees itself as a community airport, working to support regeneration and tackle disadvantage wherever we can. With a record number of entries this year, Team Glasgow has done itself proud, raising more money for good causes than ever before."

To mark the achievement of the fundraisers, Glasgow Airport held a small ceremony attended by Jim Sheridan, MP for Renfrewshire and Paisley North. "I was honoured to be asked to present the cheques to the workers at Glasgow Airport who have worked so hard to help charities in their spare time," said Mr Sheridan.

"Volunteers make a real difference in their communities and I am delighted that management at Glasgow Airport are so supportive of the work being done by their staff."
