Best airlines and holiday providers revealed
The best airlines, best cruise holiday operators, best coach and rail operators and best airport, have been revealed at the Globe Travel Awards.
The awards are voted for by travel agents in the UK and were handed out at a glitzy ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London last night hosted by Mark Lamarr.
UK airlines were well represented at the awards. British Airways won the award for best scheduled airline to Europe, and Virgin Atlantic was voted best scheduled airline to the USA and Canada. Best charter airline was First Choice Airways. In the consumer awards, Virgin Atlantic picked up the gong for overall favourite airline.
South African Airways won best scheduled airline to Africa, Emirates was best scheduled airline to the Middle East and Asia, and Qantas took the honours for best scheduled airline to the Pacific, New Zealand and Australia.
Fewer awards were handed out to UK airports, but Manchester airport did win best regional airport in the UK.
With cruise holidays growing in popularity, the awards for the best cruise operators were hotly contested. Best luxury cruise company was Silversea Cruises, while in the 4 star plus category the winner was Royal Caribbean International. Ocean Village was voted best cruise operator in the 3 star plus category, and Star Clippers best specialist cruise company. In the consumer awards, P&O Cruises was honoured as favourite cruise company.
Winner of the best all inclusive resort was couples holiday specialist Sandals, while Jumeirah Hotels & Resorts won best leisure hotel, and Hilton best business hotel. Hilton was also the people’s favourite hotel chain in the consumer awards.
Other winners on the night included Virgin Holidays for best operator to the USA, Canada and Caribbean; Neilson Holidays for best ski and activity breaks; Thomas Cook for best operator to the Western Mediterranean, and First Choice Holidays for best operator to the Eastern Mediterranean. Best rail operator was Eurostar, while Virgin Trains won best rail operator in the consumer awards.
